Kenneth Lee Butcher
Kenneth Lee Butcher, Springfield, MO died December 22, 2012. He was born September 29, 1915 to Leonard Edward and Dora King Butcher in Davies County, MO. He graduated from Gilman City High School in 1933. He met the love of his life, Lois Wiley, 77 years ago and on April 11, 2012 they celebrated 75 years of marriage. He was a dairy farmer in Indianola, IA. The Butchers then moved to Kansas City, MO where Kenneth worked for the US Post Office for thirty years, retiring as Supervisor at the Parkway Station in 1978. He enjoyed working in the Boy Scouts with his son and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Kenneth served on the Independence Neighborhood Council and won numerous awards for yard beautification. Kenneth served as Deacon of Norfleet Baptist Church for many years until moving to Kimberling City, MO to be nearer his daughter. The Butchers enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home throughout the United States and wintering in Florida near their son for twenty-nine years.
Kenneth willingly served to preserve the freedoms of our country in the US Navy during WWII, in the Naval Reserve and then again in the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mildred Butcher Melvin, and daughter-in-law, Jeannette Frazier Butcher.
He is survived by his wife Lois, of the home; son, Larry of Stuart, FL; daughter, Barbara Anglum (John) of Springfield, MO; grandson, Brad Butcher (Jennifer) of Tampa, FL; granddaughter, Angie Anglum-Gerzen (Jerry) of Rocheport, MO; grandson, Mike Anglum (Suzanne) of Reeds Spring, MO; and grandson, Steve Butcher, (Karen) of Stuart, FL. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Kelly Gerzen-McCarville (Brandt), Whitney Greenwell, Gareth Greenwell, Tessa Gerzen, Wilton Butcher, Alec Anglum, Jack Butcher, Blake Butcher, Emma Butcher, and a great-great granddaughter, Makensie McCarville; a sister, Lida Mae Clark of Sycamore, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held December 29, 2012 at Missouri Funeral Care, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with memorial services at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO.
