Barry E. Olson

Barry E. Olson, 74, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Barry was born on July 11, 1947 the son of Raymond and Virginia (Amidon) Olson. After his schooling, Barry faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. On December 6, 1969, Barry was united in marriage to Susan Smith in Waukesha and the Lord blessed Susan and Barry with four loving children, Bridget, Belinda, Barry Jr., and Becky. After an honorable discharge, Barry worked as a Pipe Fitter for the majority of his working career. He also continued to work on the family farm.  Barry loved the outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, gardening, or giving his grandchildren a lawn mower ride, he greatly enjoyed being outside in God’s creation. Barry was outgoing and fun to be around. One of his favorite things to do was to play cards, especially Cribbage, with his friends and family. It was the quality time spent with those he loved more than just the card games. Barry was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa, and he will be missed but his memory will continue on in the lives of his family and friends. 

He is survived by: his loving wife of 52 years, Susan Olson; his children, Bridget (Rick Winter) Olson, Belinda Olson, Barry Olson Jr., and Becky (Jake) Gaylord; his grandchildren, Dakota Fritz, Tanner (Monica) Conn, Devin Halvorson, Chase Conn, Adrian Olson, Thatcher Schultz, and Emmett Gaylord; and his siblings, Raymond (Pam) Olson, Samuel (Sue) Olson, Sally (Paul) Szczerbinski, Susan (Roscoe) Olson, Joey Mathers, and Dawn Pease. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project in Barry’s name would be appreciated.

A Funeral Service to honor Barry’s life will be held at 7:00PM on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Gibson Family Funeral Home in Palmyra, WI (320 W. Main St. Palmyra, WI 53156). Visitation will take place from 5:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Barry will be laid to rest in Union Grove Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
