Obituary

Dwain Jones, 96, died on July 20, 2023 in Whitewater, WI.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Jacqueline (Anderson); his children, Annette Mayfield of Eagle, WI, Nancy Woodruff of Yorkville, IL, and Randal Jones of Galesburg, IL; his sister, Gloria Steinmeyer; his brother, Herbert Schroeder; and his five grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Walton Nebraska High School, Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska College of Law.

He started his career in law with the Lincoln firm of Peterson, Devoe and Akerman, which was General Counsel of Bankers Life Insurance Company. After serving as a Nebraska Assistant Attorney General, he began a career in business and corporate law, retiring as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Director of the company now known as Trustmark as well as its subsidiaries.

Dwain served in the Navy as a gunner on a light bomber from 1944 to 1946 and during the Korean conflict, as Office in Charge of the Naval Aviation Free Gunnery School in San Diego, California.

He and his family were avid snow skiers and boaters, owning trawlers on the Great Lakes and Gulf of Mexico. They also owned and showed several British sports cars in Florida. Active in Shriners for a time, he served as Potentate of Sahib Temple in Sarasota, Florida.

Dwain will be buried in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
