Eleanor A. Hartung

Eleanor A. Hartung, 81, of New Berlin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at The Elizabeth Residence of New Berlin.

Eleanor was born on July 25, 1944 in Hammond, IN the daughter of Howard and Katherine (Poverzenic) Lindau. Eleanor spent her pre-school years in Hammond, then the family moved to Lake Mills, WI due to her father’s job.  Just prior to her senior year in High School, her father’s job moved them yet again, this time to Milwaukee, WI.  Her adult life was spent in Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls and New Berlin until her passing.

She was blessed with three children, Heather, Andrew, and Stephen.  Eleanor’s family was the light of her life. She was a very proud mother and grandmother and took great care of her loved ones. She worked in accounts payable for a few different companies, retiring in 2008. Eleanor will be remembered for her kindness, both in word and deed, and her mild and sweet nature. She enjoyed bowling, watching her grandchildren participate in sports, concerts, and many other activities, and the occasional trip to the casino. Eleanor also shared a special connection to her pets and her dog Sugar, who was a source of great joy for many years. She also made many wonderful trips with her family to Michigan to visit her sister and enjoy the local cherry festival.

Her faith in Jesus sustained her during each phase of life.  She leaned into Him and relied on Him especially as she navigated these final weeks.

Eleanor only spent a few months in the care of Elizabeth Residence in New Berlin, however it was a time of joy and laughter.  She blossomed, made friends, participated in activities, and rarely was sitting idle in her room.  Eleanor will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those she leaves behind.

She is survived by: her children, Heather (Michael) Steffes of Menomonee Falls, Andrew (Christine) Hartung of New Berlin, and Stephen (Nayeli) Hartung, Jr. of Kentucky; her grandchildren, Mitchell, Jake, and Vincent Hudson,  Abigail and Grace Hartung, and Faith, Phoebe and Gavin Hartung; and her dear sister, Jacqueline (Robert) Haberling of Michigan. Eleanor is further survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Per Eleanor’s wishes, no formal services will be held.

The family wants to thank Elizabeth Residence in New Berlin and Badger Hospice for their loving kindness and personalized care that showed such compassion and upheld our mom’s dignity until the good Lord took her home.  Any gifts can be directed to Elizabeth Residence.
