Gregory Lee Campbell, 70 of San Diego, California passed away on November 20, 2021 at the University of San Diego Medical Center.

Greg was born October 8, 1951 in Elgin IL, the beloved son of Chester and Alice Jayne (Carpenter) Campbell. He and sister Patty grew up in Elgin and Greg graduated from Elgin High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Elgin Community College for two years and went on to graduate from the University of Denver with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  After college, Greg returned to Elgin for a short time before moving to San Diego and taking a job with General Atomics. Greg would go on to enjoy a 43 year career with GA as a lead engineer in their fusion energy research division. During his career, Greg was instrumental at the DIII-D National Fusion Facility at GA and presented at numerous international conferences. He was also named as one of Elgin Community College's "Fabulous 50," an honor that recognized the most exemplary 50 graduates in its first 50 years. Greg was also known for his love of Cadillacs and his impressive collection of the classic cars. Greg was devoted to his work and appreciated his hobbies, but the most important thing in his life was his family. He was a loving son, and a devoted brother and uncle.
