James "Jack" Gies Obituary

James “Jack” Gies, age 86, of Whitewater (formerly of Palmyra) passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 16, 2022.

Jack was born in Harvard, Illinois, the son of the late John and Florence (Bock) Gies. On November 8, 1958, he married Margaret “Maggie” Vogelsberg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Woodstock, IL., and settled on a farm outside Palmyra, WI.  Jack was a farmer most of his adult life, eventually retiring from his job at Cold Spring Egg Farm.

Jack was always chatting and joking, enjoying any opportunity to make people smile.  He was happiest when spending time with his family.  Whether it was a holiday, vacation, or an ordinary day, he valued the closeness and love being shared.  He would love knowing that the wonderful stories of his life will continue to be shared and the source of many laughs.  Jack’s sense of humor, gift of gab, and love for his family will carry forward with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Beloved husband of Maggie, father of Kathleen (Greg) Werth of West Suffield, CT, Eric Gies of Whitewater, WI, and Laurie (Phil Hack) Forseth of Hebron, WI.  Cherished grandfather of Paul Werth of Pawtucket, RI, Taylor Werth of Osan Air Base, South Korea, and Angela (Nate) Hack and their children Harper Grace and Jace Allen of Fort Atkinson, WI.  Jack is further survived by numerous other relatives, and many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Maggie, son Michael and his siblings.

At Jack’s request, there will be no services.  Instead, he would want you to celebrate times shared and appreciate your own life, family, and friends.

The family has designated Rainbow Hospice Care www.rainbowhospicecare.org for memorial contributions.
