JoAnn Gilbert

JoAnn Gilbert, 77, of Eagle, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at AngelsGrace Hospice Center in Oconomowoc, WI.

JoAnn was born on September 21, 1946 in Milwaukee the daughter of Lester and Lorraine (Bartels) Krogmann. She grew up in the Milwaukee area and graduated from South Division High School. After her schooling, JoAnn was united in marriage to Raymond Lewis. The two welcomed a daughter, Tamara and Raymond passed away shortly after in 1968. JoAnn later married Maurice “Mickey” Gilbert on November 23, 1969 in Milwaukee and they enjoyed many years of marriage together completing their family with a son, Lance. Maurice passed away in 1993. JoAnn loved her children dearly.  JoAnn worked as a School Secretary for the Eagle Elementary School for 30+ years and she greatly enjoyed her career. She is remembered by many past students as the kind and welcoming face that greeted them each morning. JoAnn was happy, upbeat, and loving. She was the type of person who would do anything she could for others and she cared deeply for her local community. JoAnn was a member of the Eagle Historical Society, Eagle Homemakers, Needle Nutz and an avid member of the Mukwonago YMCA.  JoAnn was creative in making cards, sewing and  crocheting. She made countless baby blankets and would give them to friends, family, and also complete strangers.  She enjoyed her many family vacations Up North and craft fairs. She will be remembered for her kind heart and positivity and she will be greatly missed.

JoAnn is survived by: her two children, Tamara (Don) Mueller of Palmyra, WI and Lance Gilbert of Eagle, WI; her grandchildren, Jestine (Trey) Richmond, Alyssa (Jeff) Pasterski, Makenna Mueller, and Shae Gilbert; her great-grandchildren, Meaghanne, Sonny, Myles, Caden and Kinsley; and her siblings, Sue (Bill) Sandoval and Kathy (Tom) Gehling. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, her  husband(s), Raymond Lewis and Maurice Gilbert, her parents, and her godmother, Addeline Murowski.

A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Gibson Family Funeral Home in Eagle, WI (499 Elkhorn Road, Eagle, WI 53119). The Rev. Steven M. D. Blyth will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home. JoAnn will be laid to rest at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 20, 2023 in Highland Memorial Park.
