John Habasek

John Habasek “Nobody”, age 73, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at the Madison VA Hospital.

John was born on August 26, 1952 in Chicago and grew up in the Chicago area. After his schooling, he faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After a honorable discharge, John worked as a tow truck driver for the majority of his working career. He moved to Lower Spring Lake in Palmyra to enjoy his retirement and loved to sit out and look at the lake and the beauty of God’s creation. John will be remembered for his love of tinkering, painting, and his special connection to his pet dogs. He took the nickname, “Nobody” and was known by that name with the local residents. He will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind.

John is survived by: his loving partner, Marian Salyers of Palmyra; his daughter, Margaret Habasek of Chicago; his brother, Jerry Zanders of Chicago; his two step-children, Saferrah Sapp, and her son, Mendell Foreman and Candice Burton. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Juanita Sapp Habasek, and his sons Christopher Habasek, John Habasek, Jr.

Per John’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
