Marlene S. Gottfried

Marlene S. Gottfried, 79, of DeForest, WI and previously of Crivitz and Palmyra, WI passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at UW Hospital in Madison. 

Marlene was born on June 9, 1943 in Paynesville, MN the daughter of Ellsworth and Evelyn (Schmidt) Miller. Marlene married Jerome Gottfried on June 15, 1968. The couple was blessed with two loving children, Erich and Heather. Marlene obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater and Marlene worked as a Teacher at Burlington High School for the majority of her working career. She enjoyed her work and the relationships with her students and co-workers very much. Marlene’s interests included reading, writing, sewing, and being out in God’s creation. Whether it was out on a boat fishing, watching wildlife, or just relaxing outdoors. She enjoyed everything about live theatre, from acting to directing to spectating, it was a passion. Above all else in Marlene’s life was her love for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and proud grandma. She greatly enjoyed spoiling her grandkids with her love and affection. She loved attending their sporting events, dance recitals and music concerts. Marlene’s passing is a great loss to all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her warmth and kindness.  

Marlene is survived by: her children, Erich (Erin) Gottfried of Palmyra, WI, and Heather (Greg) Kuper of DeForest, WI; her grandchildren, Bradley, Paige, Emelia, and Eagan; and her brother, Jim Miller of Paynesville, MN. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

She is preceded in death by: her parents, her loving husband of 39 years, Jerome Gottfried, and her siblings, Ellen and Everett.  

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00PM on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Gibson Family Funeral Home in Palmyra, WI (320 W. Main St. Palmyra, WI 53156). Visitation will be held from 4:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home.  

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 11 in Crivitz, WI. An announcement with details will be posted to her facebook page.
