Marvin Jernigan Obituary

Marvin E. “Scooter” Jernigan, age 77, died from complications of a stroke on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 with his son Jody at his side.

Scooter’s life began in Winchester, Tennessee, continued in Mishawaka, Indiana where he graduated from Penn High School, and eventually rooted in Palmyra, Wisconsin for his last forty-four years.

Scooter thoroughly enjoyed his truck driving career that took him throughout the country for over fifty years. He never tired of hauling and meeting people throughout his countless journeys. When not in the cab of a truck he spent time riding or tweaking one of his Harley Davidson motorcycles. A hard core fan he was rarely seen without a HD shirt and hat. His beard completed the look. If not on the road he could be spotted in Hot Rod’s shooting pool or at Squidys2 playing Bingo. He was consistently one of the first customers for breakfast at Edge of Town.

If you stopped by his apartment he might be watching a western while solving a Sudoku puzzle. Liked by all who encountered him Scooter was quick to offer help to anyone in need. His kind spirit, humor, and generosity endeared him to his family and many friends who will truly miss him.

Scooter was a loving dad, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his son Jody Jernigan, siblings Dave (Storm), Ralph (Judy), Tommy (Linda Schmitt). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Martha (Somers) Jernigan and siblings Joseph, Steve, Sue Boatman, Ellen Whitehead and Mark.

Scooter’s “Celebration of Life” will be scheduled in late spring or summer.

Special thanks to Aurora Zilber Family Hospice who gave excellent care to Scooter in his final hours.
