Mary C. "Colleen" Riggs

Mary C. “Colleen” Riggs, 90 of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at her home with her family at her bedside.

Colleen was born on March 9, 1932 in Pound, WI, the daughter of John and Odell (Weiss) Murphy.  She is a 1950 graduate of Eagle River High School and Colleen moved to Whitewater to attend college earning a teaching degree and later a Master’s in Education both from UW-Whitewater.  While there, she married Dale Riggs on September 27, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Whitewater, a marriage that lasted over 60 years until his death in 2014.  Colleen was an elementary school teacher for 42 years, teaching in Palmyra and East Troy.

She is survived by: her children Karen Riggs of San Antonio, TX, Kenneth (Lisa) Riggs of Watertown, Gary Riggs of Palmyra, Suzanne Riggs of Palmyra, Sandra (Robert) Douglas of Port St. Lucie, FL, and John (Cindi-Sue) Riggs of Palmyra; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and her sister Bridget Timm of Madison.  Colleen is also survived by 2 nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Colleen is preceded in death by: her parents, husband, and daughter Dianne Ehrhardt (1998).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00AM on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Palmyra with Fr. Mariadas Bekala presiding.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church.  She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.
