Rolland D. Nelson

Rolland D. Nelson, 85, of Palmyra, WI passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on January 11, 1936 in Poynette, WI the son of Ellis and Margaret (Thompson) Nelson. Rolland grew up in the Edgerton area and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1954. After high school, Rolland faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On October 18, 1957, Rolland was united in marriage to Judith Frank in Edgerton, WI. God blessed their union with three loving children, Mark, Randy, and Kristine. Rolland attended the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and obtained Master’s Degrees in Teaching and also Mathematics. He worked as a professor at WCTC for the majority of his working career and greatly enjoyed his career in education. After retiring in 1993, Rolland worked part time for Standard Process in Palmyra and enjoyed that work as well. Rolland was blessed with a creative mind and a do-it-yourself attitude. He flipped houses in Milwaukee as a young man, before flipping houses was cool, he was a talented woodworker and carver, and made his own wine. Other interests include gambling, camping and canoeing. Above all else in Rolland’s life was his family.  He was a loving husband and father, and a very proud Marine. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 63 years, Judith Nelson; his three dear children, Mark Nelson of Janesville, WI, Randy Nelson of Edgerton, WI, and Kristine Nelson of Palmyra, WI; and his niece, Donna Nelson of Tennessee. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Ellis and Margaret Nelson, his older brother, Eugene Nelson, and a nephew, David Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rolland’s honor may be made to Rainbow Hospice or to be used for a scholarship for graduates of the Palmyra Eagle High School to attend the WCTC Math & Science Program. Checks can be made out to Judith Nelson with "Rolland Nelson Memorial" in the memo line.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the Gibson Family Funeral Home in Palmyra, WI (320 W. Main St. Palmyra, WI 53156) from 3:00PM until 5:00PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 5:00PM on the 14th at the funeral home. Rev. Steven M.D. Blyth will officiate.  A live video stream of the service will be available at https://www.facebook.com/GibsonFamilyFuneralHomes at 5:00PM. Rolland will be laid to rest in Fassett Cemetery in Edgerton, WI with full military honors at 12:00 Noon on Monday, February 15, 2021.
