Sara Kay Szymkowski, 56, of Eagle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center, surrounded by her family and love.
Sara was born on August 5, 1969, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, the daughter of Andrew and Lynn (McCaffery) Szymkowski. She grew up in the Eagle area and attended Palmyra-Eagle High School.
Sara’s life was marked by challenges, but what defined her most was her strength. She faced adversity with resilience and determination, meeting each obstacle with a quiet courage that carried her forward. Through it all, she remained deeply devoted to her family, always putting others before herself.
She was a loving and dedicated mother, and nothing brought her more joy than her role as “Grandma.” Her grandchildren Madison, Lilah, and Colton were truly the lights of her life. She cherished every moment with them and took great pride in watching them grow.
Sara found peace in life’s simple pleasures. On warm summer days, she could often be found on her front porch, tending to her flowers or enjoying a good book, soaking in the sunshine she loved so much. She had a strong sense of how things should be done and if you knew her, you knew she was usually right.
She is survived by her daughters, Jessica (Matt) Coates and Melissa Egly; her beloved grandchildren, Madison, Lilah, and Colton; her mother, Lynn Egly; and her siblings, Tim Szymkowski, Amy (Jeff) Schmidt, Karen Szymkowski, Jenny (John) Szymkowski, and Beth (Tim) Nowaczyk, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Egly; her father, Andrew Szymkowski; and her stepfather, Larry Egly.
Sara will be remembered for her strength, her unwavering love for her family, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life.
