Shirley Klein

Shirley Klein, 95, of Whitewater, WI passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at AngelsGrace Hospice Center in Oconomowoc, WI.

Shirley was born on July 23, 1924 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Fred and Marie (Riley) Manzke. Shirley spent the majority of her life in the Chicagoland area. After graduating from high school, she married George R. Klein and the two were married for well over 60 years until his death in 2012. Shirley and George were blessed with 4 loving children, Dennis, Linda, William, and Robert. Shirley worked as teacher’s aid for the majority of her working career. First and foremost in Shirley’s life was her family. She cared deeply for her children and grandchildren and made sure to be involved in their lives. Shirley was capable and independent. With Shirley’s strength and independent personality came some stubbornness as well. She lived in her own home well in to her 90’s and made sure to stay up to date and informed on the weather and the news of the day. Shirley was smart, had a good sense of humor, and enjoyed a good book. She also had a generous spirit and enjoyed helping others. Shirley lived a good life and she will be lovingly remembered by those she leaves behind.

She is survived by: 3 children, Dennis (Pam) Klein of Seattle, WA, Linda (James) Gryczewski of Dousman, WI, and Robert Klein of Whitewater, WI; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Mikulic, Gina (Glenn) Derby, Renee (Peter) Hansen, and Mary Terese (Chad) Sullivan; 5 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas, Elisa, Kennedy, and Peter; and a nephew, Allen Powers. She is also survived by other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Shirley is preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, George; her dear son, William; and her sister, Joan Powers.

Shirley’s family will hold a memorial service in her honor at a later date.
