Steven T. Courtney, 62, of Dousman, WI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at his home.
Steven was born on July 16, 1959 in Chicago, IL the son of Thomas and Marguerite (Leavitt) Courtney. He grew up in the Chicago suburbs and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. Steven faithfully served his country on board the USS Forrestal Supercarrier CVA-59 for three years. Steven was a very patriotic and proud American and he served his country with dignity and honor. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 405 of Dousman where along with fellow veterans, he served on the Honor Guard. Steven worked as a foreman in the landscaping and construction industry for the majority of his working career. He was a hardworking man who was vastly skilled at his chosen profession.
God blessed him with three wonderful children, Breanney, Ryan, and Autumn. On September 7, 1996, Steven was united in marriage to Melinda “Molly” Gramling in Dousman, WI and the two would go on to enjoy 25 years of love and marriage together. Steven enjoyed reading, traveling and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. Above all else in Steven’s life was his love for his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. He was a friend to many and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Molly Courtney of Dousman, WI; his three children, Breanney (Stephan) Zuniga of Jefferson, WI, Ryan (Amanda) Courtney of Waukesha, WI, and Autumn (Matthew) van de Vyver of Dousman, WI; his grandchildren, Adriana, Isabelle, Jackson and Jonah Zuniga, Liam and Violet Courtney, and Henry, George and Jonathan van de Vyver; and his siblings, Matthew (Christine) Courtney of Clifton, IL, Mary (Scott) Scherrer of Naperville, IL, and Caroline Courtney of Jefferson, WI. He is also survived by a number of dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his uncle George Leavitt, uncle James Courtney, uncle John Courtney, as well as his closest friend and fishing buddy, Gerald “Jerry” Honeyager.
Memorials in Steven's honor may be made to American Legion Post 405 of Dousman, WI.
Military Honors will be held for Steven at 1:00PM on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the flagpole located at Cory Municipal Park in Dousman, WI (140 S. Main St. Dousman, WI 53118). There will be a Celebration of Life at the Dousman Community Center immediately following the honors until 6:00PM.
