Susan Schicker passed into eternal life on December 3, 2023 at the age of 67.
Susan was born on July 4, 1956 to Kenneth and Eleanor Hyland of Eagle Wisconsin. With her good nature and love of life, she developed many friendships over the years. Susan was a very hard worker and spent over 40 years in the restaurant and food service industries. She eventually rose to the position of food service manager at the Shorehaven residential facility in Oconomowoc. Her knowledge and dedication were appreciated by both her coworkers and the residents.
Susan was a thoughtful person who was curious about many things. She was an avid reader and had an interest in history and historical novels. Over time she developed a particular interest in Native American history and felt a real compassion for them because of the difficulties they endured. She became quite knowledgeable on this subject and visited numerous historical sites important to Native Americans.
Having grown up in the heart of the Kettle Moraine state forest, Susan also developed an appreciation for the beauty of nature. She was an avid proponent of the importance of our national parks. She loved hiking and was working toward her goal of covering the entire southeast Wisconsin portion of the Ice Age trail. Her passion for nature once prompted her to write an eloquent letter to her local newspaper on the significance of Earth Day.
Susan met her beloved husband Peter and they were married in 2005. They cherished their 18 years of life together and never tired of exploring interesting attractions both near and far. They were always anxious to help their friends and family members in any way that they could. Susan was especially fond of spending time with her granddaughter.
Susan will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She will live on in the hearts of her husband Peter; her daughter Jennifer (Chris) Rhode; her brothers John (Elizabeth) Hyland, David Hyland and Peter (Mary) Hyland; her granddaughter Eleanor Rhode; her nieces Eileen Hyland, Denise Hyland and Lillian Hyland; along with her many cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Gibson Funeral Home in Eagle (499 Elkhorn Road, Eagle, WI 53119) at 11:30AM on December 16, 2023. Visitation will be from 10:00AM-11:30AM with a remembrance to follow. We encourage visitors to bring a favorite printed photo with Susan to contribute to a photo collage that will be created onsite. Given Susan's passion for nature and hiking, the family requests that any memorial gifts be given to the Ice Age Trail Alliance.
