Thys V. Jones, Sr.

October 4, 1934 ~ April 7, 2022 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Obituary

Thys V. Jones Sr, was born on the family farm in Dousman, WI,  on October 4, 1934.  He was one of six children born to Jacob and Cecelia Jones.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Barbara Jones (Graham), his parents, sister Joyce, brother Roy, brother-in-law Gene Carlson and sister-in-law Nancy Jones.  He is survived by his five children: Thys Jr. (Patti), Todd (Teresa), Sue Ann Utz, Sandy Koonce (Mitch), and Bill (Annie). He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sister-in-law Grace, sister Zelma Carlson, brothers Albert and George (Carol), good friend Angie Weishaupt, and hundreds of friends.

Thys was a veteran of the US Army, drafted for the Korean War, serving in Germany as a tank mechanic.  Upon return from service he met Barbara Graham and the two were married on June 4, 1960 in Lodi, Wisconsin.  The young couple first settled in Sullivan, Wisconsin, but by the mid-1960’s moved to their current residence on Park Street in Dousman where they raised their five children.

Thys worked very well with his hands being a truck driver, concrete construction supervisor, and plant manager.  He worked tirelessly to be a provider for his family.  He was a true example of hard work, dedication and love for his family.  He loved participating in sports and pitched in various softball leagues well into his late 60’s, and he was in a bowling league for over 40 years with his friends at Maple Way Lanes in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a lover of classic country and western music.  He loved to travel and would always drive there if he could.

Thys did not want to have a classic memorial and funeral.  Rather, he asked that we have a Celebration of Life for him.  His Celebration of Life will be on June 4 ,2022, at FnK Ranch, W347S5118 Waterville Rd in Dousman.  We will be having a picnic meal, music, and ample opportunity to reminisce and tell stories about Thys.  If you would like to join us for the meal, please let one of the Jones kids know before May 1st.  The venue is a little bit indoor and a little bit outdoor, so prepare for the weather of the day.

For those who wish to, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Aurora Health at Home and Hospice Care.
